This is book 2 in the Amos Decker book series. It was a fun, entertaining read with a lot of twists and turns. Several of the “surprises” were apparent before they were revealed, but it was still interesting to read.

In this book, Amos has moved to the D.C. area to join a FBI task force lead by Agent Bogart. The premise is that the team with investigate cold cases, hoping to solve them. As Decker is driving to D.C., however, he hears about Melvin Mars, a death row inmate that is about to be executed. Mars was a promising high school and college football player that Decker played against. As Mars is about to go pro and change his life forever, his parents are killed in their home and Mars is arrested for the murders. Mars is convicted and sentenced to death. As he’s about to enter the execution chamber, a man in Alabama confesses to the murder and Mars’ execution is stayed. But he’s not out of the woods as the Alabama man’s story needs to be investigated to determine if it’s legit. Decker convinces his new team to investigate the crime, and that’s when things start getting dangerous, for everyone.

The book is a quick-read murder mystery book that is fun, light reading.
